We are working with others to achieve more
It makes sense for us to work with others if we can achieve more together. Here’s an example. We wanted to reduce our environmental impact and our costs by offering employees free Oyster Cards for use on public transport in London. A multidisciplinary KPMG team devised a scheme and then consulted with HM Revenue & Customs and Transport for London to calculate the accounting, business and technical implications. Launched in January 2007, the scheme is the first of its kind.
Corporate responsibility: some important firsts
KPMG was first among the ‘Big Four’ to:
- Publish an Environment Policy.
- Achieve ISO:14001 for its environmental management system.
- Launch an Oyster Card scheme.
- Win a Living Wage Award for providing fair pay for contract staff.
Responsible consumption
The difference we’ve made so far:
- 88.3% of paper used is now recycled.
- 4.8 million travel miles have been saved through car sharing and video conferencing this year.
- 95% of our energy is sourced from renewable sources.

KPMG people, 35% of staff, volunteered time during their work hours to CSR in 2007.
“We’re constantly striving to provide an even more stimulating environment where people can flourish and achieve more.”
