About ACI

The Institute has developed a range of tools to assist audit committee members in meeting their oversight role. These tools include:

  • This web site: www.kpmg.co.uk/aci;
  • Help line: Tel 020 7694 8855 (office hours) or email auditcommittee@kpmg.co.uk;
  • Roundtables: The roundtables enabling discussion between audit committee members and provide for the exchange of views and insights on topics of interest. Recent Roundtables have addressed, the role of the audit committee within the unitary board and the revised Combined Code guidance for audit committees;
  • Breakfasts: The ACI breakfasts provide a small forum for detailed discussion and debate of topics of interest to audit committee members;
  • Audit Committee Institute technical update seminars: Our Development Programme aims to enhance both the awareness of audit committee members and their ability to implement effective audit committee processes. It is focused on the needs of audit committee members and provides, on a timely basis, an understanding of the principles and developments in financial reporting (including International Financial Reporting Standards), company law and corporate governance.
  • Sector specific events: Recognising the particular technical issues different sectors face, the ACI has established industry specific technical update sessions, to assist audit committee members.
  • Topic specific events: Topic specific seminars have been designed to give additional support in areas that can be particularly challenging for audit committee members, either because of the topic’s scope or its complexity.

The ACI also issues a number of publications designed for audit committee members:

  • Audit Committee Quarterly: A summary of issues of concern to audit committee members including audit committee process and policies, regulatory matters and current developments in accounting and auditing. This publication provides a useful summary of some of the key issues that audit committee members should consider when establishing their next meeting’s agenda;
  • Audit Committee Toolkit: A series of concise, easily readable tools that provide examples of audit committee reporting and documentation required, evaluation and assessment aids and specimen terms of reference;
  • Regulatory-analysis and “hot topic” mailings: These include Companies Act 2006, Disclosure of information to auditors.
  • Shareholders’ Questions: To assist audit committee members and other directors in their preparation for their company's Annual General Meeting Shareholders’ questions suggests questions that shareholders are likely to ask thereby allowing directors to develop informed responses;
  • Corporate governance Surveys: Recent surveys include: The Audit Committee Journey – Evolving Priorities, Practices and Perspectives – A Global View - 2006–2007 International Audit Committee Member Survey.

Regulatory Analysis
Companies Act 2006, Disclosure of information to auditors.

We encourage you to make full use of the ACI to remain informed about today's critical issues.
