| At
KPMG we’re very proud of our
contribution to our community; both
on a local and national level and recognition
for our projects is growing. We’ve
won 14 major national and international
awards in the last 10 years,
half of which were won in the last
12 months
alone. This year, we are again
ranked in the Business in the Community
Corporate
Responsibility Index for the
third year running. In
2003 more of our people volunteered more time towards charitable
and community activities than ever
before, with over 2300 participating
during work time – more than 25 percent of our people.
Schools
and Youth Organisations
We help to support literacy and numeracy programmes through mentoring,
financial advice and leadership programmes for Head Teachers.
The
Homeless
Our Ready to Go programme, run in association with Business Action
on Homelessness, helps ex-homeless people with their CV’s and
interview technique.
Charitable Giving
750 charities benefited from KPMG donations in 2003. Whilst payroll
giving raised £50,000 to national staff charity I CAN, helping
children with speech and learning difficulties.
KPMG Foundation
This embraces a wide variety of educational and social projects
aimed for the underprivileged. These range from helping young
offenders after their release to providing bursaries for dyslexic
children.
The fund now totals £10 million.
The
Environment
In 2003 we purchased more than 90 percent of our electricity
from renewable energy sources. Our headquarters in Salisbury
Square
has the ISO 14001 standard for environmental management,
which we aim
to extend to other buildings.
In the words of John Griffith-Jones,
our Senior Partner, “There
is a strong and overwhelming moral case for Corporate Social Responsibility:
not only to benefit our local communities, but also in attracting
and retaining the best people. ”
